Epicism Guild Philosophy

Epicism’s initial recruitment post from 2010.

Greetings, Fellow Adventurer,

I have spent the past few weeks resurrecting a long-dormant guild, and while the website does a decent job covering what it’s all about, it does little to shed light on who I am or how I run things.

Hence this post. Pull up a chair, and allow me to spin you a tale.

Many years ago, a younger, much handsomer version of me ran a World of Warcraft guild. My goal was simple: find cool people and create a space free from toxicity. By that point, I had seen many abusive guilds. I set out to build something better—something intentionally welcoming.

That effort became Epicism, a place where people showed up not to tear others down, but to help each other succeed. We raided, explored, hunted rare mounts, earned titles, and—most importantly—had a genuinely great time doing it together.

We weren’t interested in drama, hostility, or pushing boundaries at others’ expense. The expectation was simple: be respectful and recognize that World of Warcraft is, at its core, a social experience. None of us succeed alone—either in-game or out.

That was sixteen years ago. In the time since, I have become a dad of two—one fully launched into adulthood, the other close behind. With more time on my hands, I find myself drawn back to the idea of sustaining something meaningful again.

I am, blessedly, not going about this alone. I have the incredible fortune of having people who I consider to be very good friends helping me on this journey. They are among the coolest people I have ever met online anywhere, and they’ve made logging on a thing to look forward to.

It is with their support and yours that Epicism will succeed, not in service to a guild that I created long ago, but to sustain a gaming environment that we, as friends, can truly enjoy.

As for me, my role is that of steward for said environment, in complete service towards you and your goals. While I will make decisions as needed in a GM capacity, I am not a dictator. Because let’s be real. Dictators f*cking suck.

One last thing.

Epicism’s resurrection was preceded by a series of unfortunate events. I am not inclined to belabor those, and I wish all involved the very best. Sufficed to say, we learned some things. What matters most now is that we find ourselves among friends, playing together with good company and good intentions.

For the first time in a very long time, I am extremely optimistic for the future of our guild. That is because of you. If there’s anything you ever need to make your gaming experience more pleasant here, I hope you will let me know.

Yours in Stewardship and Service,

galesig
